Cute little fish do grow up...
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:06:00 PM »

This is just a post to remind you that even though that large mouth fish you are about to buy is small now, and no other tankmates will fit into it's mouth, eventually it will grow up.

Here are some pictures of a lionfish that started out nice and small, got along great with the other fish until one day it decided that a watchman goby might just fit into it's mouth. Obviously the goby was way to big to be eaten but of course the lionfish just had to try. Both fish are still alive and the lionfish is being relocated.

The victim

You have to wonder what was going through the goby's mind at that moment.

Whoa...how long did the lionfish have that thing in its mouth?  Good timing with the picture!

WOW!  I remember when my lion was smaller than that when I first got hem.  Now he is about 7" he is in a 46 gal bf with about 40lb of LR and doesn't swim a great deal.  I'm wondering if these are suitable accommodation for him, he looks great not any issue just wondering if this is enough room for him and how much bigger will he get?

They really do not need a lot of room as they kind of just sit there and wait for food to come along. When I was diving in NC last Summer I saw lots of Lions just sitting in one spot while smaller fish swam all around them. I think your tank is fine.
