ease of upgrading a tank?
« on: March 07, 2010, 02:06:38 PM »

Hey so i have had a biocube 14 for about a year with coral and fish and inverts and LR and such and i want a bigger tank and am thinking about upgrading over the summer. How difficult is it to move stuff form a smaller tank to a larger one? Im mainly worried about the fact that my LR if pretty covered in coral, and i would have  to buy more LR for a bigger tank and i dont know if id be able to position them in ways that the corals wouldnt be smooshed ya know?

So yeah if any wants to help could you explain to me the process and all for upgrading to a bigger tank?

Upgrading the tanks would not be a problem at all. After you set the new tank up I would place some sand and new rock in. Let it run for a few weeks and then pull some of the water out to make room for the contents of the old tank. Then place the rock and sand from the old tank into the new tank. You will want to clean the sand first. I would use the tank water you pulled from the new setup to rinse the sand. If you can not position the rock and coral combos right you may have to break off the corals and reattach them. They will grow back in no time. I normally do not have issues with placing the corals and rocks, they just seem to find the right spot. It is like a rock puzzle.

What size are you thinking of getting?
