Candy Cane attacked by a mushroom...
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:31:02 PM »

So in the last month my mushrooms have started to really blossom more rapdly than normal. I had one mushroom that over the course of maybe a week moved an inch or two and started to from what i could see barely brush up against my candy canes... but it turned out that the mushroom was actually covering two of the candy cane polyps and the polyps are now brown and crusty... im assuming this means they are dead... i also just noticed that the candy cane is now growing away from the shrooms and only 2 or 3 polyps seem to be dead. will they come back to life? or will they always just be brown and dead? will they stay there or fall off or do i need to cut them off?

thanks.

Sorry to hear that. If the tissue is gone leaving the skeleton behind then they will not come back. The skeleton will stay there and you can cut it off if you want, it is up to you.

O ok. fooey. well actually its been about 24 hours and one of teh ones that seemed dead yesterday seems to be coming back. its like theres a fresh green polyp coming right out of the dead skeleton. SO i guess we will see but i do believe that they wont really come back.

i cant just cut them with scissors can i??

It depends on how strong you are? I normally use wire cutters or my stainless steel bone cutters. A dremel also works.
